Erectile dysfunction – Ian Botham & Shockwave Therapy

Erectile Dysfunction – Ian Botham

Let’s talk

Look around your local pub, or at your friends or work colleagues. The chances are that over 50% of the men will be in need of erectile dysfunction (ED) treatment if middle-aged or above. It is, though, highly unlikely that you’ll know who’s affected. Even among close friends, ED still remains a taboo subject. That’s a lot of silence.

Ball & stumps

It’s true that men are at last beginning to be more open in speaking about physical and emotional issues, but ED continues to remain the last frontier. The psychological stress of bottling it up affects not just the sufferer, but their partners too. All too often, those with ED can begin to feel that they and they alone suffer in silence.

The Ian Botham Angle

Ian Botham – erectile dysfunction were words which surprised many when they became newspaper headlines.  Sir Ian had ‘came out’ by going public with his confession that he had undergone Erectile Dysfunction treatment using shockwave therapy –

Here was a man whose reputation had been built as much on his virility as his Aussie-defying antics on the cricket pitch. Then he famously walked the 900 miles from John o’Groats to Land’s End for charity, and his active social life is no secret. Then we learned that even Beefy is concerned about ED.

His statements to the press concerning his Shockwave Therapy (SWT) treatment arguably helped people as much as his efforts for charity. He helped raise awareness and made ED a subject more socially acceptable for open discussion.

Why you are not alone

Although there is a smaller percentage of men with psychological issues surrounding sex, for the majority, the causes are physical. This is causes in the plural because there are many contributory factors underlying the condition. These include heart disease, clogged blood vessels, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and Parkinson’s Disease.

Then there’s raised insulin levels and body fat around the middle.  Add smoking, excess alcohol, prescribed medications (such as antidepressants and statins) and a modern Western diet into the mix. On top of these come a lack of meaningful exercise, stress and too little sleep.  It’s surprising that the rate of ED among men isn’t even higher!

What is ED?

Broadly speaking, you are suffering from ED if you have a consistent inability to sustain an erection for  sexual intercourse. Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil), pumps and injections have all been used by some, if not all sufferers at some time. This was whilst ED gradually took hold; gradually, because it rarely happens overnight.

However, all of the above are temporary fixes and rob the sexual act with your partner of any vestige of spontaneity. And that’s not all; after prolonged use, those little blue pills stop doing their job and then there’s nowhere to run. SWT, on the other hand, seeks to address the issue by repairing the damage caused by the above lifestyle factors.

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

Shockwave therapy is unlike quick-fix erectile dysfunction treatments which purely ‘manage’ ED.  It’s unique in that it aims to restore the erectile mechanism in order to enable natural, spontaneous erections. We treat patients by using non-invasive acoustic waves which carry energy to treated tissues, increasing blood flow.

Results from basic science experiments have provided evidence that SWT induces cellular microtrauma.  This in turn stimulates the release of angiogenic factors and the subsequent neovascularisation of the treated tissue. That’s a scientific way of saying it works in the majority of cases, as seen on this link, which is based on research carried out at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece

If It’s Broke, Let’s Fix It

What has become clear is that no two men are identical in their response to SWT.  A suitable protocol for a man in his forties may not be so for someone in his seventies. Most ED clinics tend to adopt a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we tailor a bespoke treatment to match a patient’s individual needs.

This means that the energy levels and number of treatments will be varied according to clinically-proven protocols. We also look at the causes of ED, alongside the restoration of functioning. To this end we offer appropriate lifestyle advice tailored to a patient’s needs.

Our ED treatment is non-invasive, painless, discreet, and without side-effects. To use cricketing terms in honour of Sir Beefy, together let’s knock ED for six (although we cannot guarantee you’ll bowl a maiden over – ouch)!  Don’t let the treatment prices quoted by other clinics put you off.  With WholeLife Clinics you will be pleasantly surprised… in more ways than one.

SWT changes lives

Our Lead Practitioner is one of the country’s most experienced SWT exponents, having successfully treated hundreds of men. She feels privileged to have changed the course of so many lives in recent years. Often, apart from the ED treatment itself, her patients also benefited greatly from her general lifestyle advice.

This success has been aided by her constantly investigating new protocols and the latest, clinically-proven devices.  Additionally, she is a founder member of the British Shockwave Association (BSWA) – She also addresses conferences on shockwave therapy.

Most importantly, from a patient’s perspective, is that at WholeLife Clinics, every person who comes through our doors is special. You are treated with compassion, kindness and absolute discretion.

If you suspect that you, or somebody you know, could benefit from shockwave therapy, please get in touch. If may well be the first time you have ever spoken to anybody about ED.  Please be aware, though, that this is what we do… and we pride ourselves on doing it well.
